O'Dwyer anvils are poured from an SG Iron which is not as hard as steel anvils. The approximate hardness of O'Dwyer anvils is 260 Brinell or 24 Rockwell. Farriers appreciate that these anvils are not as hard as steel anvils as they tend not to make as much of a ringing sound. (however, we do suggest that farriers still wear hearing protection while using these anvils). This is the most popular size for a workshop anvil.
